Hoe zet je bestaande data om in concrete acties die een stad properder en aangenamer maken? Samen met stad Turnhout gingen we die uitdaging aan. Wat begon als een analyse van meldingen rond afval en sluikstort, groeide uit tot een volledige end-to-end datacase: van businessvraag en data-integratie tot datamodellering, dashboards en automatische notificaties. Tegelijk vormde dit project het ideale leertraject voor de onboarding van een nieuwe collega en een stage. Het resultaat? In zes weken tijd een praktijkcase met tastbare meerwaarde voor een slim en datagedreven lokaal bestuur.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Een datagedreven aanpak voor een netter Turnhout<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In het kader van het meerjarenplan van Stad Turnhout zet de stad sterk in op een verhoogde netheid, met als doel een aangenamere en leefbare stad voor inwoners en bezoekers. De stad beschikt al over een meldingssysteem waarin afval- en sluikstortmeldingen worden bijgehouden en vormt de basis voor het huidige ophalings- en interventiesysteem. Om deze bestaande data beter te benutten en gerichter in te zetten, werden de gegevens rond deze meldingen verder geanalyseerd om patronen te detecteren en inzichten te vertalen naar effici\u00ebntere planning en opvolging. Deze aanpak maakt het mogelijk om proactiever in te grijpen, wat leidt tot een duurzamere verbetering van de netheid. Dit traject viel samen met de zes weken onboarding van mezelf en het stagetraject van Ellen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We doorliepen in een razendsnel tempo het proces wat Understanding Data gebruikt om KMO\u2019s datagedreven te maken. We begonnen bij de basis: heldere businessvragen en klantgesprekken. Vanuit die input bepaalden we duidelijke doelstellingen, brachten we processen en onderliggende data in kaart en vertaalden we dit naar concrete, bruikbare inzichten en acties.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Data-integratie als stevige fundering<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Vervolgens gingen we aan de slag met data integratie. Met behulp van dlt (data load tool<\/a>zorgden we ervoor dat data effici\u00ebnt van A naar B stroomt. Omdat er slechts beperkte toegang was tot echte data, werd het proces van dataverzameling nagebootst met realistische testgegevens. Zo konden we toch verder bouwen en de aanpak testen op een representatieve manier.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Een datawarehouse bouwen voor betrouwbare analyses<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In de volgende stap, datamodellering, gebruikten we dbt (data build tool) om de data analytisch te structureren. Data uit software is vaak heel moeilijk interpreteerbaar. Het doel van een data warehouse is data in een business-virendelijk formaat te modelleren. We werkten met staging, data tests, facts, dimensions en marts om de data beter interpreteerbaar en inzetbaar te maken. Dit is een cruciale stap: zonder degelijk datamodel blijven analyses vaak oppervlakkig, inconsistent of moeilijk schaalbaar. Door data logisch te structureren en te valideren, cre\u00eber je \u00e9\u00e9n betrouwbare bron van waarheid. Dit maakt het niet alleen eenvoudiger om inzichten te genereren, maar zorgt er ook voor dat verschillende teams met dezelfde definities en cijfers werken.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Tot slot bouwden we de consumptielaag: dashboards en visualisaties in Superset. Hiermee maken we inzichten toegankelijk voor verschillende niveaus binnen de organisatie. Waar de beleidslaag nood heeft aan strategisch overzicht, focust de operationele laag op concrete patronen, zoals zwerfvuilmeldingen, om gerichte acties te ondernemen. Daarnaast implementeerden we in Keep automatische notificaties. Zo kan bijvoorbeeld elke maandag een overzicht van de geplande evenementen worden gedeeld met de operationele teams, zodat zij hun planning proactief kunnen afstemmen op extra afvalophaling.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
